Question 1: What is an AWS GovCloud account?
Answer: A specialized type of Amazon Web Services (AWS) account that gives U.S. government agencies and their partners access to the AWS GovCloud (U.S.) regions. It gives customers and their resellers the ability to architect and deliver secure cloud solutions, which require elevated levels of compliance.
Question 2: How do we ensure AWS GovCloud’s security?
Answer: AWS GovCloud (US) regions comply with the FedRAMP High, Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) Security Policy, U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Department of Defense (DoD), Cloud Computing Security Requirements (SRG) for Impact Levels 2, 4, and 5 and many other frameworks.
Question 3: Why should I set up an AWS GovCloud account?
Answer: It helps you meet compliance mandates, safeguard sensitive data, strengthen identify management, improve cloud visibility, and protect accounts and workloads.
Question 4: Do Resellers need to be Public Sector Authorized to transact with AWS GovCloud?
Answer: No. Both commercial and public sector opportunities can transact in AWS GovCloud, if authorized.
Question 5: What should I do to set up an AWS GovCloud account?
Answer: An initial AWS Account must be created first before it can be activated in the AWS GovCloud Region. As best practice, it should be a Master Payer account with a payee (member) account created underneath it. If you don’t currently have a Master Payer account for the customer, please follow the KB article “How to Order a Master Payer Account”.
