Question 1: What problem is the Intent Search solving?

Answer:

Search previously relied on keyword matching, so a query like “laptop” returned not only laptops but also accessories like bags and chargers. This led to user frustration and as a result, they had to apply additional filters to find what they were really looking for.

Question 2: What is the Intent Search all about?

Answer:

The Xvantage search engineering team set out to make results more intuitive by teaching search to understand user intent, not just keywords. With its new intent-aware search, the Xvantage system identifies what a user is actually trying to find and adjusts results accordingly:

• Search for “laptop” → You’ll see laptop devices only

• Search for “laptop bag” → You’ll see laptop bags only

• Search results now align with what users mean, not just what they type

Question 3: What are latest updates and new features on Intent Search?

Answer:

  • From Keyword Search to Intent Understanding - the Intent Search Model now recognizes and interprets multiple product attributes. This feature understands certain attributes (such as vendor, product category, RAM, and processor) and returns more relevant results for complex searches. Users receive significantly more precise results without needing to manually filter or refine their searches. These attributes include:

    1. GPH Category 1 (TS only)

    2. GPH Category 2 (TS only)

    3. Vendor Name (TS and Cloud)

    4. RAM (TS only)

    5. Processor (TS only

Therefore, Intent Search correctly identifies the Vendor, Category, RAM requirements, and Processor Model.

  • Multi-Category Intent Recognition - Since many products belong to multiple categories (ex. USB Headsets appear under both accessories and communication devices), to better represent these products, the Intent Search solution now supports multiple category outputs for a single product, thereby increasing search precision and coverage across category-based searches.

  • Expanded Language Support - Intent Search is now available in Canada in both English and French.

Question 4: What are the roll-out plans and what does this mean for the Xvantage user?

Answer:

Ingram Micro launched this feature in the US to an initial group of 500 users. The Ingram Micro team will be closely monitoring search performance and user behavior to ensure quality improvements before rolling it out to all users.

What This Means for Users

• More relevant results from the start

• Less need for filters and refinements

• Better sorting outcomes, especially when using price

• Faster paths to purchase or decision-makin
