Import Error Adobe Subscription Troubleshooting: OPEN_PURCHASE_AUTH in Xvantage for Associates

Prev Next

Summary:

This documrnt explains why the error “OPEN_PURCHASE_AUTH” appears when importing an Adobe subscription into Xvantage using Seamless Move and outlines how to resolve or bypass the restriction when appropriate.

Issue:

When attempting to import an Adobe subscription using Seamless Move in Xvantage, the import fails and the following error message is displayed:

“Customer is not eligible for transfer. Reason: OPEN_PURCHASE_AUTH”

This error blocks the import from completing.

Cause:

This issue occurs when the Adobe customer has one or more open Purchase Authorizations (PAs) associated with their Adobe VIP or VIP Marketplace subscription.

An open Purchase Authorization may indicate:

  • A pending order that has not been completed

  • An unpaid or incomplete Adobe transaction

  • An active return window

  • A purchase authorization awaiting approval or payment

Because the subscription is not in a fully settled state, Adobe blocks the transfer until the open PA is resolved. This restriction is enforced by Adobe and returned via the Adobe API to Xvantage.

Adobe guidance states that open Purchase Authorizations must be cancelled, returned, completed, or paid for before a transfer can proceed.

Resolution:

Follow the steps below to resolve the issue:

  1. Confirm the Error – Verify that the OPEN_PURCHASE_AUTH error is displayed in the Seamless Move import flow.

  2. Check for Open Purchase Authorizations – Review the Adobe Admin Console or VIP Marketplace portal for:

· Pending purchase authorizations

· Unpaid or incomplete orders

· Active return windows

· Items awaiting approval

  1. Resolve the Open Purchase Authorization – Take one of the following actions directly in Adobe:

  • Cancel the open purchase authorization

  • Return the item (if applicable)

  • Convert the PA into a completed order

  • Pay any outstanding charges

Once the PA is resolved, Adobe will allow the transfer.

  1. After the open PA is cleared, retry the Seamless Move import. The error should no longer appear.

  2. Optional: Bypass the Restriction - you may also select:

  • Expire Open Purchase Authorization

  • Ignore Order Return

These options send override parameters to Adobe’s API and allow the import to proceed.

Important note: This option should only be used when:

  • The customer understands the implications

  • The reseller confirms the PA is no longer required

  • There is no financial or licensing risk
